Setting some goals for 2018

It’s that time of year again, time to look ahead to the next twelve months and do some goal setting! I love the opportunity that a new year brings, not only resolutions on how you want to improve your life but January usually comes with a fresh bout of motivation and inspiration for the coming year.

After reflecting on the highs and lows of 2017 I’m heading into the new year feeling optimistic and ready to tackle January head on by setting myself some attainable goals.


Enjoy my work

Last year saw me make some pretty big steps in terms of my career meaning I’m now heading into 2018 self-employed and with the freedom to really shape my own working pattern. This is a hugely exciting opportunity and something that I’ve always dreamt of so I feel incredibly lucky to be in this position much sooner than I ever expected. I now have several clients that I provide Virtual Assistant services for along with my new role as a Bumble Queen Bee and of course running this blog. I don’t want to get complacent but things seem pretty good career wise so I really want to make the most of this time and continue to collaborate with clients I enjoy working alongside. I’m excited at the prospect of being able to develop my business and steer it in whatever way I might wish!


Get on the Property Ladder

2018 is the year I would love to get on the property ladder and own our own home. I started saving halfway through last year and I’m pretty proud of how far I’ve managed to get with my house fund so far. Since moving to Nottingham we’ve been renting a property with friends which has been so much fun but I now feel ready to have our own space and fill it with our possessions. I’m beyond excited at the prospect of having an entire home to decorate and the chance to really be able to make it our own. I’m sure an abundance of interior posts will ensure once the time comes but for now excuse me whilst I attempt to avoid all of the January sales…


Get back into Fitness

Last year saw me find my feet in terms of fitness, I was heading to the gym two to three times per week and I really started to enjoy my regular classes such as circuits, body attack and spinning but after completing my first half marathon in October I gave myself some time off to recover. This quickly turned from a couple of weeks to a couple of months as things got extremely busy towards the end of the year. I’m determined to get my fitness levels back to where they were and feeling body confident again after indulging in a few too many Quality Streets over Christmas. I’m looking forward to trying out some new classes in 2o18 and (hopefully) finally getting into Yoga!


Take More Time Away From Screens

Towards the end of last year things got pretty hectic, I was attempting to work a full time job, organise my Bumble events, do some freelance VA work and run my own blog. I felt like I was glued to my laptop 24/7 and very rarely got to enjoy any down time in the evenings and weekends. Now that I’ve gone freelance full time I’m determined to take back some of that ‘me-time’, shut down my laptop in the evenings and switch off from social media. I want to read more, do puzzles, play board games. Spend my time doing things that don’t revolve around technology and will allow me to spend my evenings away from the digital world.


Organise my Finances

With me now being self-employed I’m completely in charge of my own finances and that’s a pretty scary thing let me tell you! This year I need to get a handle on completing my own tax return and everything that goes along with it. I need to get more organised, throw myself into some serious spreadsheets and make sure I do some sensible budgeting to avoid any nasty shocks at the end of the tax year!


Bring Back my Creative Side

I have a list as long as my arm of blogging goals I’d love to achieve over the next year but I think the overall one would have to be bringing back my creative side. I think 2017 was the year of focusing on developing my VA services but I never want to loose sight of creating my own content as that is one of the things I love the absolute most. I want to develop a blogging schedule and actually stick to it! I want to post twice a week and work in advance so I always have something interesting and inspiring to talk about. Basically I want to get organised, up the quality and get reacquainted with my creative side.


Grow my YouTube Channel

If you know me well then you’ll know that I’m more than a little YouTube obsessed, I love getting a more behind the scenes look at people lives and I could watch vlogs for hours on end (much to Adam’s disapproval). I created my own channel a good few years ago now and have tried on several occasions to get into creating videos, even giving Vlogmas a go for the past two years but it just hasn’t seemed to stick. There’s something holding me back from throwing myself into it full force but I’m determined to discover what that is as I’d love to grow my YouTube audience and post videos consistently once a week. I’m going to spend some time over the next week planning content and hopefully getting a little more focused with the direction I’d like to take my channel.



This is my number one goal for 2018. To be more content. To spend less time contemplating what other people think of me, how I should be spending my time, who I should be spending time with. Basically I want to feel happier and more secure in my own skin and to feel totally content with the decisions I’m making.

And there we have it, my eight goals for 2018! I’m excited to get cracking with them and throw myself into the New Year whilst the motivation levels are still high.
