Whether you LOVE or LOATHE Valentine’s Day, whether you’re in a relationship or single and ready to mingle there’s no reason why you can’t get out and do something fun this 14th February. Instead of spending a small fortune on an average meal out at an overcrowded restaurant why not try something a little bit different this year? I’ve rounded up some of Nottingham’s quirkiest activities which would be perfect for date night whether that be with your BF/GF or your besties!
Ludorati Boardgame Cafe
If you love board games then this is without a doubt THE place for you. With a choice from over 750 games one of your only problems will be which to play first!
If you’re looking for something traditional then there are the likes of Monopoly and Cluedo to keep you happy or if you’re feeling a little more adventurous then trust me there’s plenty of choice. The staff are real game board experts and if you’re feeling a little overwhelmed by choice simply let them know what kind of thing you enjoy and they’ll happily spend some time helping you to find your perfect match.
Ludorati is a fully-serviced cafe bar meaning you can indulge in a glass of wine or a bottle of beer whilst getting stuck into a serious game of scrabble. I mean, what could be better?! And as a bonus tip; I highly recommend giving Ticket to Ride a go!
The Lost City Adventure Golf
Who doesn’t love a bit of healthy competition on a date night?! Not me that’s for sure although if I don’t win there’s bound to be some sulking involved…
Last weekend we were very kindly invited down to try out The Lost City Adventure Golf which is situated within The Cornerhouse in Nottingham city centre. Now you might associate ‘crazy golf’ with UK family holidays to the seaside but The Lost City is definitely not just for kids! With two 18 hole courses, a tiki bar and live music at the weekend it’s a great destination for an alternative date night! Now just to warn you, we turned up at 7pm on a Saturday night and it was pretty darn busy. There was probably a 5 minute wait in between each hole which kinda affects your flow but I guess it does help to stretch out the evening a little more and allow you more time to take in the surroundings. We chose to complete The Sacred Skull Pass course which had a great atmosphere and thanks to the combination of amazing decor and realistic sound effects you really do feel like you’ve been instantly transported to the rainforest!
After all of that competitiveness it was nice to end the evening with a couple of cocktails in the very cool Tiki Bar area whilst listening to some amazing live music. I chose to go all out with the romantic vibes and try one of the special Valentine’s Day cocktails, Truely Madly Peachy which was a fruity delight whilst Adam stuck with something a little more traditional in the form of a Jack Daniels and coke.
Overall it was a really enjoyable evening and if you’re looking for a spot of light hearted fun this Valentine’s Day I’d definitely recommend heading down to The Lost City!
The BIG Valentines Movie Night at Rescue Rooms
Everyone loves a cheesy rom-com on Valentine’s Day don’t they and what could be better than teaming them alongside cocktails and popcorn?! This year Rescue Rooms are hosting The BIG Valentine’s Movie Night and they’ve picked some real corkers to show including When Harry Met Sally and one of my absolute favourites, Notting Hill. I would 1000% be heading here if I didn’t already have plans, in fact I’m petty sad to be missing out…
If you were to talk to any of my friends they’d think I was on commission for Roxy Ballroom as I have spoken about it so much but I promise I’m not, I just really really love the venue and think it brings something much needed to Nottingham’s bar scene. Whether pool, ping pong or beer pong is your game, Roxy’s got you covered. Set in a really cool venue with serious warehouse/loft vibes it’s a great place to head to for a super chilled date night. And if all of the competitiveness gets you feeling a little bit peckish then I can HIGHLY recommend the food, in particular the pizzas and the mac and cheese balls…I’m seriously drooling just thinking about them.
Enjoy a Pudding Platter for Two
Instead of heading out for a full blown meal why not just go somewhere and enjoy the best course there is, dessert! There’s plenty of cafes/dessert bars situated in the city centre that open late so why not pop along and get your sugar fix? One of my absolute favourite places for sweet treats is The Pudding Pantry and I’ve spotted that they’re actually offering a Valentine’s Day pudding platter for two which sounds incredible. If you’re a sweet tooth like me then you’re probably not going to want to miss out!
Do you have any plans for Valentine’s Day? I’d LOVE to hear about them!
We were offered a complimentary visit to The Lost City Adventure Golf but all thoughts and enjoyment my own!
