One of the things I love most about Nottingham is that despite being a relatively small city when compared to the likes of Manchester and Leeds is that there are still constantly new bars, restaurants and coffee shops popping up on the scene. Since moving here just over a year ago I’ve lost count of the number of new openings there have been and it seems there’s always somewhere new to try out which is great for a foodie like me. I thought I’d do a little round up of some of my favourite new additions to the Nottingham scene, great for if you’re planning a trip to the city!
The BotanistI was beyond excited when I first heard that The Botanist was coming to Nottingham and more specifically right around the corner from me in West Bridgford as it was one of my favourite places to head to in Manchester. With its rustic themed interiors, unusual cocktail creations and delicious food it’s the perfect place to head to for a cute and cosy evening!
The atmosphere was well and truly bustling when we arrived on opening night with live music playing and a lively crowd that was eager to sample what was on offer. We kicked things off with some cocktails, I chose a Raspberry and Disaronno Sour which came served in a flowerpot, the perfect photo opportunity! Whilst we perused the menu we ordered a few nibbles which again were served in the most unique and amazing way, I mean there was even a mini wheelbarrow!
Next it was on to mains, it was a tough choice as the menu is so good but in the end I went for the Halloumi and Sesame Falafel Hanging Kebab, after all I can never say no to Halloumi! It came served with cous cous but on this particular day I was in need of some serious carbs so I instead swapped it out for some fries. The kebab was accompanied by a sweet chilli and ginger sauce which was a delicious addition!
Unfortunately we were far too full up to move on to desserts which I was gutted about as I’d had my eye on the Baked Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough but it just means more reason to take a trip back at some point soon! I thoroughly enjoyed our evening at The Botanist and think it makes a great addition to the West Bridgford restaurant scene, I can tell that I’m going to spend a lot of time there going forward.
Another? Wine BarNow if you know me well you’ll know that I’m not a big wine fan, I think it might have been all of the two pound bottles we drank at Uni that have scarred me for life! But when new kid on the block Another? Wine Bar opened its doors I just had to go along to see what all the fuss was about!
Nottingham’s first ever self-serve wine bar, offering over 30 different wines, sparkling wines and champagnes it really is a brand new concept for the city. Situated in Trinity Square, it’s a cosy little space tucked away on the first floor above a shop making it the perfect little hideaway for after work drinks or a pre-dinner tipple. The concept is simple, upon arrival you will be greeted with a personalised tab card which you can then use to help yourself to your choice of wine in either a 25ml sample, 125ml small glass or 175ml large glass. When you’re finished you simply settle your tab and hand back your card!
Now if you’re not a wine connoisseur like myself there’s no need to worry! The staff are extremely helpful and knowledgeable on the wines on offer so will be able to point you in the direction of something you’re sure to enjoy. Even I managed to find a couple of Rosé’s that I was a fan of!
Roxy BallroomRoxy Ballroom opened a couple of months ago and I’ve already been more times than I can count on one hand! It’s exactly the type of venue that Nottingham has been missing, a cool and casual ‘sports’ bar offering ping pong, pool and beer pong. It’s the perfect place to head to with some pals for pre-drinks or for a couple of beers whilst getting competitive over one of the games on offer.
On one of my many visits we decided to grab some food and I was really pleasantly surprised with how delicious it all was! I went for the mushroom pizza which came oozing with melted cheese and tasted very homemade! We also got a side of the Mac and Cheese bites which you MUST get if you ever find yourself there, I’m still dreaming about them weeks on…
I hope you enjoyed hearing about some of the new and exciting openings in Nottingham, if you’re planning a trip to the city I’m sure you’ll have an amazing time!
