Happy National Burger Day! Yes that is a thing and yes it does mean you now have an excuse to go out and eat a burger today so cancel your dinner plans and get down to your nearest Byron Burger!
When Byron got in touch and asked if I wanted to come along and celebrate their 10th birthday AND National Burger day in style at their Intu Derby branch I jumped at the chance as, shock horror I haven’t actually ever visited one before! It’s one of those places that I’ve always wanted to try out but just haven’t got around to it, especially as there isn’t actually one in Nottingham.
I went along with some of my best blogging pals Rebecca, Mel and Laura so it was always set to be a great night as we hadn’t caught up in a while. When we arrived we were quickly seated in a lovely spacious booth and I have to say I was super impressed with the industrial looking decor, it felt really on trend and there was definitely an Instagram opportunity at every turn!
After perusing the menu we kicked things off with some starters to share which included two lots of nachos and some olives. The portion sizes were super generous and we had to be extremely careful not to get too full so early in the meal!
Choosing our mains was a tricky decision and one we all deliberated for quite a while, I mean you can’t possibly rush that sort of important choice! Now I’m not really one for a fancy burger, I like things to be pretty plain so you might call me boring but in the end I went for the classic cheeseburger with American cheese and a side of courgette fries. Both were absolutely delicious and I really enjoyed having something different to accompany my meal rather than a classic choice of skinny fries.
Now if you are the more adventurous type you might be interested to hear that Byron are offering a special burger to celebrate their 10th birthday. Designed by chef Gizzi Erskine, the “Gizzmo” consists of a 6oz hamburger, welsh rarebit- made from Barber’s Cheddar, Smoked Applewood cheese and stout. On offer until 28th August you’ll need to rush to get your hands on it but definitely worth a trip I think you’ll agree!
At this point we were all feeling pretty full but we couldn’t possibly leave without trying out one of the famous Byron milkshakes! Now if I was going to be reserved I would have just stuck with the regular milkshake but oh no, after seeing there were freakshakes on the menu I couldn’t possibly look back! I plumped for the Oreo one and when it arrived I was slightly alarmed by the sheer size of it. Topped with ice cream, whipped cream and a WHOLE freaking slice of brownie it really was quite a spectacle. Not only did it look good but it tasted pretty damn good too! I tried my best to polish it off but after two courses it just wasn’t do-able. Note to self: next time definitely leave space!
Overall we had a lovely evening, the food was delicious, the service was great and we definitely left with extremely full tummies. If you fancy celebrating National Burger Day in style then I’d 100% recommend Byron for fulfilling all of your burger needs!
I was very kindly invited to receive a complimentary meal from Byron but all opinions are very much mine and my tummy’s.
